A photojournalism and media project for animals
Our Mission
Moving Animals’ mission is to connect the world to animals’ stories through powerful photography, footage, and journalism.
From slaughterhouses to zoos, we work on the ground to document the animals used for food, entertainment, fashion, and experimentation.
We specialise in supplying powerful visuals and data-driven stories to media outlets. By bringing hard-hitting evidence about animals’ lives to the mainstream conversation, we educate audiences, amplify solutions, and drive positive change for animals.
Our work also seeks to strengthen the effectiveness of the animal advocacy movement through our ever-expanding photography and footage archive, free-to-use for NGOs, journalists, and activists. We love highlighting the incredible work of others in the movement through photography: solutions, rescues, investigations, and so much more.
Our Story
Hi, we are Amy and Paul, the founders of Moving Animals, a photojournalism, footage, and media project.
We met a few years ago while working for the animal advocacy organisation, PETA UK. It was during this time that we saw first-hand the impact and importance of photographs and footage when it comes to creating change for animals, and so, in 2018, after receiving a grant from the Culture & Animals Foundation, we decided to leave our London lives, pack up our cameras, and start documenting animal industries around the world.
Since then, we’ve worked on the ground to document everything from slaughterhouses to zoos, using our photographs, footage, and research to help tell animals’ stories in the mainstream media and on social media platforms.
We also focus on highlighting the incredible efforts of organisations, groups, and individuals in the movement who are fighting for a different world for animals through investigations, solutions, rescues, and so much more.
We hope our work helps others to look through a different lens: one which views animals as individuals, not just “commodities” or “property”.
Our Background
Amy Jones, Photographer and Co-Founder
Amy Jones is the photographer behind Moving Animals. Since 2018, she has worked on the ground across seven different countries to document the plight of animals used for food, entertainment, fashion, and experimentation. Her work has informed and strengthened the campaigns of multiple animal advocacy groups and has been featured in over 150 media outlets, including The Washington Post, CNN, and The Independent. She was awarded both Best Overall and Winner of the Animal Welfare category for her photo essay “Next in Line'' in the International Vegan Film Festival (IVFF), and she won the Earth.Org “Overall Best Environmental Photo” 2023 and the “Wildlife in Peril” 2023 category. A selection of her photographs was published in the seminal book, HIDDEN: Animals in the Anthropocene.
Paul Healey, Researcher and Co-Founder
Paul is responsible for filming Moving Animals’ video content. His interest in media trends helps ensure Moving Animals’ work is told in a variety of leading outlets, from popular content platforms like UNILAD and VICE to industry-leading publications like The Guardian and Channel News Asia.
Paul previously worked as a researcher for corporate affairs at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), following a scholarship to focus on animal studies as part of his Master’s degree in Literature from the University of Kent. He has written articles for news desks and NGOs including The Independent, Veganuary, and Species Unite. He believes that engaging visuals and thought-provoking research can be among the most effective tools to influence public opinion and advocate for animals.
